9. Toys ‘R’ Us: “I don’t want to grow up”

Grab your Cabbage Patch Kid and soak up this eighties goodness. “From bikes to trains to video games, it’s the biggest toy store there is. Gee whizz.” Well, at least it was... until it filed for bankruptcy.

8. Folgers Coffee: “The best part of waking up”

Cheery, optimistic, on-brand and slightly presumptuous. One of the greatest lines of all time was recently retired in favor of Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation. Oddly, the brand sold the rights to the 38-year-old jingle at auction. It netted only $90k. Guess the market for old jingles isn’t so hot.

7. Alka-Seltzer: “Plop plop fizz fizz”

“Oh, what a relief it is” to get this jingle out of your head. It was penned in 1976 and was so popular Sammy Davis Jr recorded a version.

6. Kit Kat: “Give me a break”

Ever balance a wheelbarrow on your nose? Not sure how they found that guy. Anyway, “give me a break of that Kit Kat bar” lives in our consciousness whether we like it or not.

5. McDonald’s: “I’m Lovin’ It”

What is the famous John F Kennedy quote? “Success has many fathers”? Well, this jingle has many writers. Justin Timberlake recorded it. Pusha T claims to have written it. But the credit goes to Germany’s Heye ad agency. No matter who wrote it, “I’m Lovin’ It” endures.

4. Tie: Oscar Meyer: “I’d love to be an Oscar Meyer wiener” and “My bologna has a first name”

We have one simple, silly jingle that has been burned into our brains since the sixties, and another that taught us how to spell. I mean, really, isn’t it baloney spelled with a ‘y’?

3. Meow Mix: “Meow, meow, meow, meow…”

We all know cats can talk. Thank you, Meow Mix, for providing subtitles and this contagious jingle.

2. Chili’s: “I want my baby back (ribs)”

Okay, who knew Justin Timberlake did a version of this one too? Did he need the money or did he do it for the ribs? And, of course, barbeque sauce.

Thank you Jon Hamm for writing this one. Only kidding. Coca-Cola was ahead of its time with this nifty anthem of inclusiveness. What’s not to love? (Except for the G Love Coke Zero remake. Spare yourself. Don’t Google it. Just don’t.)

The ice-cream chain in in the northeast absolutely blanketed the airwaves during the eighties with lots of goofy ads. However, this jingle always remained in my head. It’s crying to be sampled.
