Tesla Motors and home-sharing startup Airbnb have inked a deal enabling the installation of electric car chargers in in top rental properties.

To attract the electric motor crowd and encourage greater uptake of the vehicles, the firms will roll out the Tesla Model S chargers to locations boasting over four star ratings. Furthermore, to be eligible user’s full homes must be registered for rental with AirBnB looking to roll out the power-points to a minimum of 100 homes.

Property owners will receive the $750 charger for free – but will have to foot the bill of the pricey installation.

A statement from AirBnb read: “Together, we’re building a world with no limits to how far you can travel and how you get there. From remote deserts to lush forests, we’re unlocking highways, backroads, adventures and unique homes.”

Initially focusing on California, one of the states with the highest volume of Tesla cars, the companies hope to push the scheme globally.
